the job and hotel
well, im a workin stiff! this shift is from 1 am to 9 am, i got lotsa coffee, and lotsa smokes, and kgo on the computer radio, and pogo all night long!
WINTER has settled in here at who did it and ran, ink! as 2 inches of SNOW (YAY!) fell down from the sky today. it looks beautiful too. not a soul to be seen, not even a drunk trying to sleep in my doorway! its so peaceful, its scary! quiet, too! all the snow has stuck to the trees and grass and the sidewalks and street are wet and clear. its not even all that cold outside! its gonna be a long night! no activity at all! kgo is playing kate smith singing god bless america! well, i tell u, he'd better, cause no one else will!
ever try to say something witty and funny at five minutes of three in the morning? why did the elephant carry a key? to open his trunk! haw haw! graveyard shift humour! well, i will be right back, i need to walk about the property!
ok, its 10 past 3 now, and the building is quiet. i have to keep an activity log as to what goes on during the shift. basically i write every hour the building is secure, and the front and back areas are clear. now, if there was a problem, i have to deal with that also; and write up an incident report. so thats all there is to this! and i get 8.50 an hour! amazing what people will pay you for doing hardly anything!
i knew what the job entailed when i was hired! its basically just sitting on my ass, and playing games on the computer. well i was doing that IN MY ROOM! so why not do it in the office and get PAID for it! america, what a country!
during the day, we have visitors that come in and see residents. only one visitor at a time per resident, and they must have a valid state issued i.d. and they must not be on the do not enter list! so we keep their i.d. while they visit, and log in their names and date of bitrh, and time in and time out and name and room # of resident. this goes on between 8 am and 10 pm daily. all visitors must leave by 10 pm. or if they dont, they get put on the do not enter list, and then we throw em out! and the resident gets a write up. 3 write ups, and out ya go! evicted!
it HAS to be that way here. this is considered a high crime area, and drugs are dealt nearby. its a transient area also, and before the current management took over this building, this place was a known drug hangout. but not anymore! all the scum has departed, and the building has been fixed up. to get in here to live you have to go thru a criminal background check, and if you are a fuck-up, you dont get in. you need a key card to get in the building, and security 24 hours a day.
the rent is dirt cheap too! we pay 265 a month, and with that you get a clean room, fresh carpet and paint. a fresh mattress, refridgeator, sink, hot and cold running water, heat, lights, and a microwave oven! you have to supply ya own tv, and phone jacks are provided if ya want a phone in ya room.
no bugs either! the bug man sprays every 2 weeks even if ya dont need it or not. and heres a bonus! the food bank delivers food for all of us every other tuesday! it aint much, but it sure comes in handy! you have to provide ya own linen, and you have access to a vaccum cleaner for the carpet.
i been here since june, and i'm here for the duration. this sure is a good deal!
well, its 3:30am, and so im gonna get some coffee and play pogo!
