oh im tired today, all is quiet, its 4 am and bleeeeeck!!
heres a lil something i found on the bulletin board here at the good and clean motel!

there are measures that older people can take to improve the likelihood of a good nights sleep!

goto bed at the same time each night

hava bedtime ritual that includes the things ya do to relax and prepare for sleep

goto your bed to sleep; avoid falling asleep on the couch or inna recliner and then waking up and going to bed

create a bedroom atmosphere that promotes relaxation and comfort

use your bedroom and bed only for sleep; avoid other activities in the bedroom such as watching tv or reading or eating

if unable to fall asleep get up and move to anutter area to perform other activities until sleepy

limit napping during the daytime

exercise during the day but avoid exercising late in the evening

avoid eating a heavy meal late in the evening

aviod drinking caffeinated or alcoholic beverages before bedtime

relax before going to bed with reading, music, meditation, or other soothing activities

exercise has been shown to have many benifits for older adults. these include:

prevention of heart disease

reduction of elevated blood pressure

reduced risk of osteoporosis

promotion of appropriate weight

promotion of more restful sleep

improvement in high cholesterol and glucose tolerance

preserves mobility by promoting muscle strength and joint flexibility

reduces the risk of falling by increasing agility and better balance

lessens pain from arthritis

lessens anxiety and stress

theres also growing evidence that regular physical activity helps stave off mental declines as well as physical declines. while the mechanisms are largely unknown, exercise seems to provide more protection for the brain.
