and now, the answers you have been waiting for....or maybe not!!!
good morning one and all! and happy friday! THANK YOU for the many responses to yesterdays drivel de snivel, and the challenge was to answer all 10 questions correctly. although most of you chose to answer some of the questions, the deal was to answer all of them. no one got all 10 correct. one person got 9 correct, but chose not to answer one question. the whole point of this exercise was not to embarrass anyone, but to prove my point, that some students in the u.s. are just shuffled along to graduation; as a result, the high school diploma then given is worthless. a fine example can be found on radiogurl's entry as she was interviewing a person for her job.
so with out further ado, here are the answers!
1.explorer/mapmaker
2.Africa~on the north is the democratic republic of the congo, to the south is nambia, to the east is zambia, and to the west is the south atlantic ocean!
3. although there are 24 DIVISIONS, there are 39 TIME ZONES on the planet. the question was: how many TIME ZONES....
4.1868.90
5.defination and enflation are spelled wrong!
6.50 states, believe it or not, some teens today think there is 51. puerto rico is NOT a state. it is a protectorate.
7.magellian was the very 1st to sail around the world, although on the voyage, he was killed in the philipines, his crew continued the journey, and he got the credit.
8.5904
9.50 stars, that represent the 50 states, 13 stripes, representing the 13 colonies. at one point our flag had 15 stars and 15 stripes, and the people had realized that if they added a stripe each time a new state was added to the union, our flag would be hugemongous!!!! yikes!!! so they just add a star and went back to 13 stripes.
10.the word to fit the defination was "textile".

now like i said before, the deal was to answer all 10 correctly to get a gmail invite, a lot of you were close, and the one person who gave a response to a question "thats not my thing" probably would have won if they had answered the question. and if i gave out gmail invites to people who were close, that would defeat the purpose of the exersize, and i would be doing the same as some teachers in this country, rewarding failure. another fine example of rewarding failure by school teachers is jay leno's "jaywalking" segment, where he asks random people easy questions, and they cannot give the correct answers, even with hints!!! its a sad state of affairs in this country that most teachers just shuffle students along. now, im not saying ALL teachers do this, some teachers actually do their jobs!
so are ya pissed yet? well, dont be! i just was trying to make a point!! in my own lil special bi-polar way! lets try to stop the school system from cutting corners. parents need to get involved in their childs education and KNOW that they are properly educated, and when they graduate after 12 years of basic schooling that diploma MEANS something, and is a reward for hard work, and accomplishment!!
hava fun filled relaxing weekend!!!
TODAY IS TAX DAY IN THE US!!! get ya taxes filed and postmarked by midnight!

FACT OF THE DAY
Sporting history is made today in 1947 as baseball player Jackie Robinson makes his debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The reason this is history? Robinson is the first African-American to play Major League baseball in modern times and ushers in a degree of integration in sport that would over time be reflected in US society as a whole.
