memorial day

TODAY is celebrated memorial day here in the usa. memorial day was actually yesterday, but, we americans insist that all of our holidays fall on monday. but, thats a rant for anutter day.

today is memorial day. it is a solemn day as we remember the brave men and women who served and died to keep the united states united and free. and to remember the surviving veterans who served with honour and dignity. whether in a war zone or peacetime.

so, instead of getting drunk and partying today, go visit a veterans home and thank a veteran for their service to the country. did you know that this year marks the 60th year of the battle of iwo jima in world war 2? the battle is very signifigant because it helped turn the tide of the war in the pacific.

also, you should visit a veterans cemetary, and take a moment to reflect of the sacrifices made by honorable men and women who died to keep america free.

freedom is the most important human value that we have. you may be against war. you may be against the military establishment. thats ok. you have that RIGHT. you may be against the government. thats ok. you have that RIGHT. you may speak out against the President or congress. thats ok, you have that RIGHT. you can vote for whom you want to. you have that RIGHT. you have the RIGHT to walk FREE in society without fear from government interference.

and what gives you these RIGHTS? the constitution of the united states. when a person joins the military, or is elected to the presidency or congress, they solemnly swear to support and DEFEND the constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

if you do not like something the government is doing, you have the RIGHT to petition the government for redress.

if you commit a crime, you are innocent until proven guilty by a jury of your peers.

our system and our way of life is not perfect, but overall, it is the BEST in the world.

some countries, you WILL be JAILED or KILLED for speaking out. that will NEVER happen here.

some countries allow you to vote. but you MUST vote for whom the government TELLS you to. why bother? but they FORCE you to vote. you do not have a CHOICE.

in america, you HAVE a choice.

get the point? if not, let me know, i will happily explain it to you!

enjoy the holiday, and REMEMBER!

FACT OF THE DAY
The first 'Indy 500' motor race is run today in 1911 with driver Ray Harroun achieving victory. The race is an American institution, although many European drivers have also tasted success, notably the legendary Jim Clark, who won in 1965 - the same year as he won the F1 world championship.
