good news and a swell deal for you my pals!!!
happy saturday one and all!!!
i got some good news, and a swell deal!

first, the good news!

i have been accepted to be a distributor for the 2006 SCOTSMAN CALENDARS!!! what is this you ask? well, THE SCOTSMAN is a newspaper from edinburgh, scotland that i read daily, and its also where i get my FACT OF THE DAY that you see here on the daily drivel! and every year, since 1932, the scotsman calendar has delighted thousands over the years with landscapes of scotland!

An original advertisement published in The Scotsman for the 1932 edition promotes it thus: "Framed in Oak (with hinged movable back), the Calendar, with a change of picture for each week, is a useful adornment in office, study or drawingroom."

Since this initial production three-quarters of a century ago, the calendar has evolved to the present day where soul-searching images, capturing the essential spirit of Scotland, aim to faithfully represent the diversity of Scotlands landscape, history and heritage.

In many ways, thanks to Scotlands timeless landscape, The Scotsman Calendar really has not changed so dramatically through the ages. Traditional landscapes of sandy beaches, harbour fishing boats, rolling hillsides, magnificent mountains and dramatic coasts or lochs have always dominated throughout its distinguished 75 year long history.

Now, The Scotsman Calendar continues to grow in popularity and is one of the best-selling calendars in Scotland. With 70,000 sold through retail outlets; 30,000 bespoke calendars sold direct to companies with their company logo; and 15,000 sold directly to customers by post and 65 per cent of them delivered to destinations abroad.

The appeal of The Scotsman Calendar is not just in the quality of its award-winning images. Clients appreciate the high standards of customer service, and the reliability of delivery. The testimonials recieved - gush with enough praise to make an ice cube blush and some loyal customers have even faithfully kept each of their Scotsman Calendars since 1932, making for some rare and valuable collections.

The Scenery of Scotland

Scotland's scenery is famous because of its diversity. There are three different areas: the Highlands, Midland Valley and the Southern Uplands. Each area has a distinct view which we aim to capture in the calendar.

There are 277 Munros - mountains over 3,000ft - in Scotland. A number of these are ancient volcanoes, which makes for beautiful scenery. Even in Edinburgh we have Arthur's Seat and the Mound, ancient volcanoes that create the backdrop for the city.

Of the 787 islands around the coast, only 62 are more than three square miles in area. There are so many stunning deserted beaches and superb lochs, including sea lochs on the West Coast. And, of course, the long coastline water is an integral part of the scenery.

Human intervention has also created some beautiful cities. We at The Scotsman Calendar work with the photographers and The Scotsman photographic editorial team to select photographs that show this diversity. We understand how important the calendar is to those Scots living around the world and to people who have never been who want to see true Scotland.

The calendar comes in a beautiful bronze ready-to-post envelope featuring Scotland's famous Highland Cow with its reflection mirrored in the waters of the River Dee, Royal Deeside.
The recipient of the calendar will also be able to enter a free prize draw for a bottle of specially selected Scotsman Whisky, there are 6 bottles to be won each month. Sending the calendar as a gift lets friends and family know that you are thinking of them. I can deliver the calendar to any address in the world so you can have it delivered direct to your door or direct to your friends or your family.

Sir Alexander Fleming is born today in 1881. Famous for his discovery of the antibiotic penicillin, he was unable to find a way to produce effective quantities of the drug until two other scientists, Florey and Chain, developed a method of purifying it. All three were awarded the Nobel Prize in 1945.
