Hall of Fame broadcaster Curt Gowdy dies at 86
The longtime "Voice of the Red Sox," Gowdy made his broadcasting debut in 1944 atop an orange crate in Cheyenne, Wyoming, doing the play-by-play of a six-man football game between Pine Bluff and St. Mary's before 15 fans in sub-zero weather. His enthusiasm and distinctive style during his subsequent broadcasts of minor league baseball and major league recreations over KOMA in Oklahoma City earned him an opportunity with the New York Yankees and Mel Allen in 1949. Two years later Gowdy became head man on the Boston Red Sox broadcast team. He left the Red Sox in 1966 for a ten-year stint as Game of the Week announcer for NBC.
Gowdy was the 1970 recipient of the George Foster Peabody Award for excellence in broadcasting for his "blend of reporting, accuracy, knowledge, good humor, infectious honesty and enthusiasm." He was the first sportscaster to be so honored and was also named "Sportscaster of the Year" on three occasions.
Gowdy's numerous network assignments ran the gamut of sports: from the World Series to the Super Bowl to the Montreal Olympics to the "American Sportsman" series. Among other "blue-chip" sporting events, Gowdy broadcast 13 World Series and 16 All-Star Games.
As Gowdy recalled: "I tried to pretend that I was sitting in the stands with a buddy watching the game�poking him in the ribs when something exciting happened. I never took myself too seriously. An announcer is only as good as yesterday's performance."
i been kicking around about a new template:
i created it using powerpoint, and this is as far as i have gotten; whatta ya think?
im a copy and paste man. this is in mhtml. i dont know how to make it work in diaryland. i can read html, and understand what it will do, but as far as remembering how to write the magic code to make this into a diary, i dont know how, or cant recall, my retention sucks ass!! (see what happens when ya smoke dope in the late 60's and early to mid 70's??)
i like the template i have now, but spring is coming next month, and i think by that time, i wanna change. enny buddy out thar thats a good code writer, besides my pal, radiogurl?? she designed this current template, and done a wonderful job, but i wanna give some buddy else a chance to contribute!! hell, if ya wanna, i will bribe pay yous! real cash even!! whatta ya say? can ya help a poor boy out today??

i have gotten into the very bad habit of feeding creamsicle the cat bits and pieces of my food. and he has gotten into the very bad habit of begging me for it. i need to cease and desist and refrain and stop doing that!! i had a crispy hot ham and cheese sub sunday, for example, and ended up with a hot cheese sub. creamsicle inhaled the ham like it was his last meal!! but he sat right at my side, and whined and pleaded until i gave in. this stops today. i mean it. really.

all my life, folks been telling me i should write a book. ever since i was a poor white child living in the gutter folks been saying that. i think i already have. its right here, you are looking at it, this is page 608. hehehe.
thing is, i have an evil ex out there and if i write a book, and become world famous again, she will want a piece of the action, and i dont want her back in my life, making me miserable. and i dont wanna go on oprah and have her rehash that past life. so, i will remain a poor boy. which aint so bad. its not like im missing any meals, after all!

Recipie of the day!! (theres a pie in recipie!! wheeeeee)
Sausage Brunch Casserole Recipe
1 lb of pork sausage, (then cooked, drained, crumbled)
4 1/2 cups cubed day old bread
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
10 eggs slightly beaten
4 cups whole milk
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp onion powder
Fresh ground pepper to taste
Optional:
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup peeled, chopped tomatoes
Place bread in a well buttered 9x13 inch baking pan. Sprinkle with cheese. Combine the next six ingredients. Pour evenly over the bread and cheese. Sprinkle sausage and optional ingredients over the top. Cover and chill overnight. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Bake uncovered for about one hour. Tent with foil if top begins to brown too quickly.
Serves 6.
