computer follies redux
feed the cat
sunday started out swell!! i woke up at the usual time of 3:20 am thanks to the cat who, even though had food in his bowl, that wasnt good enuff for him, oh no, he had to wake me up on sunday to get fresh food!! the food thats there is just 3 hours old.
so, i come over and turn on the puter here, then go make the coffee. feed the cat more.

so, im watching the coffeepot fill, and the cat is whining, so i go look to see what mr fussbudget is complaining about his food now, when theres some smoke coming from the puter!!
i come over, and i see that the puter is not smoking a cigarette, so, i unplug it quick-like! aw crap-ass!! just what i need!! a fried puter for breakfast!! and, no taters even!! so, after a minute or so, i don my surgical gear, and start the surgery by opening up the chest cavity tower, and look at the innards of the puter. the arteries leading to the heart wires leading to the hard drive look ok, so, with scapel screwdriver in hand, i start the transplant.
so i take the drive out, with much success, and put in a replacement drive. this is the drive that i tryed to sell on ebay last year, with no success. whew!! good thing!! so, now, the new drive is in, and now, i get out the hp recovery disks and put in number 1 and turn on the puter!!
nothing. then, i remember i have to go into the bios and adjust the boot sequence so that the cd drive boots 1st. having done that, and turned it off and then on again, this time, with success.
this process is going to take about an hour or so, and i see that its snowing out AGAIN!!! so, i watch some cnn for a while, then, msnbc, then finally some tvland. cnn and msnbc dont show news on sunday morning at 4 am, just junk. tvland has a sanford and son marathon.
then i realise that i have lost all my work files, all my pdf files, my office programme, all my pictures but i put them on photobucket (whew) and then, all my music, but i got some on myfilehut and thank god i have the cd's.
now, im back up and running, right? eep. i cant do anything without having to install all 7829748974986498 windows xp updates. by this time, im running out of cigarettes, its 6 am, so off to the 7/11 round the corner. and down the block.
i come back, about 20 minutes have gone by. theres a pop-up window, "windows update has encountered a problem, and has to close. we are sorry for the inconvience." aggggggg!!! so i click on it and try again.
8 am, i FINALLY get all the windows updates done, and it FINALLY tells me that windows service pack 2 is ready to download and install. you cannot use innernet exploder 7 beta 2 without service pack 2. so, more downloading and installing. now, i can goto the microsoft website and get the innernet exploder 7 beta 2.
9 am or so.
ok, so now, im back up, right? yay!! so now i have to install yahoo messenger. that took longer than usual because i kept getting these irritating pop-up windows telling me that yahoo messenger has encountered a problem, and has to close. so finally i get that up and running.
now i realise that i need to install the drivers for the printer! (heres where the REAL FUN begins!) ok, great~! im a lil lazy to go dig out the cd for the printer, so i just go on the hp website, and get the drivers there.
i find the software and driver page, and get busy. and wait. and wait. by the time it gets to 53% it tells me that there is a file missing, and cannot continue. heres the fun part. it dont TELL ME what file is missing. so i try again. after about 4 tryes, its time to "chat with a live technician!" after another 90 minutes of doing the same thing over and over again. i give up. by this time, its almost noon, and i need to take a nap!!
2 pm. still no printer. so maybe its the firewall. i shut off the firewall, and by this time, i have the cd dug out, and try that. im still getting the message that the drivers will not load because i am missing a file. but again, it will not tell me what file is missing. so, im sitting here, going over in my head what i done to get the puter back up. so, im thinking that maybe its service pack 2 that is preventing the printer driver from loading. so, i delete IE7 and service pack 2. you need service pack 2 to run IE7. so, having done that, i reboot again, and try to install the printer drivers. hahahhahaa!!!
i get that damn message again!! missing a file. so, now, i need a break, and im trying to talk to onewetleg and rowsbud72 and chaosdaily, but i am too anxious and hi strung now, and have to figure this out!! i just HAVE TO!! i cant talk to no one. so i go off yahoo messenger, and then im sitting here, thinking maybe when i reloaded everything, not all the files loaded properly.
so, now, i reformat the hard drive and reinstall. this time, its around 4:15, i get everything back up, and now, the printer drivers load!!
success!! yay!! im tired!! so i decide to come here to dland, and i get a MESSAGE FROM boxx9000 basically asking me if im still alive, and why havent i updated, and is i allright??!! then i realise that i never updated. so i wrote a quick few syllables, and left it at that. then i went to pogo to see if i can find boxx, and i do, along with poolagirl and we chatted for awhile.
so, thats that!!
i have to work tonight. its payday today!! the food bank is coming at 9 am, and i have to distribute that. then i have to go shopping, i am out of everything!!! then i have to take a bath. i wanted to do that yesterday!!! no more sleep for me today. oh well.
today is the 1st day of spring!!! hahaha!! its snowing from here to ohio!! springtime!! hahahah!!
tonight when i get to work, i will have to remotely connect this puter with the one in the office and get all the work files i lost on the hard drive. i can do that. i have the know-how. and how!
i still dont have service pack 2 back up, im waiting for windows update to take its sweet time and send it to me. so, no IE7 for now.
and windows VISTA will be released at the end of the year.
yahoo messenger works ok, and the printer is working, and NPR is on the radio. and i got paid, and all is almost right with the world.
its snowing again. will it never end??
