12:45 - Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 THIS JUST IN FROM THE NEWSDESK OF THE OFFICES OF WHO DID IT AND RAN, INK!!! STATES DUMP ELECTORAL COLLEGE WASHINGTON (AP) -- What's happening in Maryland? On Tuesday, Maryland became the first state in the union to drop out of college. The electoral college, that is. Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley signed a law that would award the state's electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote. As long as others agree to do the same. "I spoke with the other 49 Governors across the country, and each agreed to hold a special session of their legislators to speedily draft bills that will be signed immediately, thereby effectively abandoning the electoral vote process across america. Maryland's new law will go into effect immediately." O'Malley said. When contacted by the Associated Press, each Governor confirmed that this is a collective effort, planned at the recently held Governor's Conference, and will go into effect immediately. This year will be the final year for the electoral college, and from now on, the vote for president will be decided solely on the actual vote cast, this was decided mainly to avoid any more mishaps like what has happened in recent years. The American People have a right to choose its leaders as a whole, and not have "electors" decide for them. The U.S. Congress is constitutionally unable to stop this procedure by the individual states, according to the 1st amendment of the constitution: All 50 Governors are in total agreement that this action taken by them is an exercise of free speech, as voting is a form of free speech, and shall not be infringed. "Up until now, the process for picking the president was unique in the world, and now, by our actions today and this week, we have effectively eliminated the shackles that the electoral college had on the will of the people since 1789. The problem is what happened in 2000. George W. Bush got elected by winning the electoral college, even though Al Gore got more votes. That's happened four times in the country's history. And we as Governors of the states, want to assure the American People that is process is finally finished, and will never be brought back." O'Malley said. well, as for me, on the agenda this weekend is the seahawks game, and i will once again be selling the hot dogs and pretzels!! then i think i will have one or two more games in december, then i will be done with that!!
