FRIDAY NEWS U CAN USE, ALL DAY LONG!!
NEWS OF THE DAY!!

Members of Congress are getting involved in a last-ditch effort to save the life of brain-damaged Florida woman Terri Schiavo.

A House committee plans to issue subpoenas to stop doctors from removing the severely brain-damaged woman's feeding tube as scheduled at 1 p.m.

The extraordinary legislative maneuver comes after the House and Senate failed to agree on legislation to stop the removal of Schiavo's feeding tube before leaving for their spring break.

A statement on the planned subpoenas comes from House Speaker Dennis Hastert, Majority Leader Tom DeLay and Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis. They say the inquiry should give hope to Schiavo's parents and supporters.

A battle over the fate of 39-year-old Terri Schiavo, who has been in a near-vegetative state since 1990, is playing out once again in Florida. Following the wishes of her husband, doctors removed Schiavo's feeding tube on Oct. 15, 2003, saying that she would die in a week to 10 days without the tube.
Schiavo has been at the center of a court battle between her parents and her husband. The parents want to keep her alive -- but her husband says she would never have wanted to live this way.

Gov. Jeb Bush wants to intervene and defy a court order that led to the tube's removal. On Oct. 21, 2003,he signed a bill from the Florida legislature that gave him power to do so.

QWEST offers 1.5 MPS plus they make serious attempts to overcharge, whereas AT&T offers 3.0 MPS, plus serious attempts to be honest! and, after giving them a sporting chance, i may just switch my local fone service too!

Sinn Fein 'must act against IRA crime'

THE Northern Ireland Government said today there was "no hope" of political progress in Northern Ireland until the issue of IRA criminality has been dealt with.

Northern Ireland Secretary Paul Murphy said the onus was on Sinn Fein to act.

He also praised the courage of Robert McCartneys sisters, who have taken their campaign for justice over the murder of their brother to the US.

Mr McCartney, 33, was killed near Belfast city centre

His sisters blame IRA members for the murder and accuse the organisation of intimidating witnesses.

Mr Murphy said today: "To all intents and purposes we are not talking about any future negotiations or discussions until the issue about criminal activity on the part of the IRA is addressed."

Until that happens there "wasnt any hope at all" of progress to restore the institutions of government in Northern Ireland.

The Secretary of State also highlighted the way in which the McCartneys campaigning had changed the political landscape of the peace process.

The McCartneys met President George Bush yesterday, and said they were "encouraged" by his response.

Mr McCartneys sisters and partner gave Mr Bush a dossier which details their claims that IRA members murdered the father-of-two on 30 January.

SDLP leader Mark Durkan said today the family had given the British and Irish governments a sharp lesson in how to deal with the Provisional movement.

He said the five sisters refusal to accept any half-baked explanations, had moved the peace process at unprecedented speed.

YAHOO! TO HOST BLOGS

Yahoo! Inc., the second most-used U.S. Internet search engine, will offer a service allowing users to publish Web logs and share content such as digital photos with friends online.
The service, called Yahoo 360 Degrees, will be offered as a trial to some Yahoo! users starting March 29, spokeswoman Rochelle Adams said. Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo! formally announced the service yesterday.

The move steps up competition among companies including Google Inc., the most-used search engine, and Microsoft Corp.'s MSN that allow Web users to publish online diaries called Web logs. Offering Web publishing may help Yahoo! retain users and encourage them to use other company services.

Not much goin on here, i DID manage to get to the library last night, just in time to avoid overdue charges for the cd's i got there. the motivation behind hauling ass to the library before they closed last night was the fact that my regularly watched tv shows were not on last night due to the stupid "march madness" college basketball junk. it continues tonight on CBS. i got a vcr movie, "WINCHELL" about walter winchell, the father of gossip columnists who struck fear in the hearts of celebrities back in the 30's 40's and 50's! so thats the plan for tonight!

FACT OF THE DAY

Rudolf Diesel is born today in 1858. He is best remembered for he engine that is named after him, an engine that intriguingly, was originally intended to run on vegetable oil as opposed to the fossil oil that powers most of today's car engines.
