Today's Birthdays:

Campbell Scott (1962): Actor who has had a successful career on both stage and screen. Scott appeared in many on and off-Broadway shows throughout the 1980s, some of the most notable being "Ah, Wilderness" and "Long Days Journey into Night." In 1990, Scott made the leap from the stage to the silver screen when he played the friend of an AIDS patient in Longtime Companion. While Scott enjoyed his first leading role, opposite Julia Roberts, in the 1991 film Dying Young, he did not have a really successful flick until Singles (1992). Since then, Scott has appeared in films including The Innocent (1993), The Daytrippers (1996), The Love Letter (1999), Delivering Milo (2000), Roger Dodger (2002), and Loverboy in 2004.

Anthony Edwards (1962): Actor who sung his way (along with Tom Cruise) into everyones hearts with his rendition of "Youve Lost That Lovin Feeling" in the 1986 film Top Gun. Upon graduating High School, Edwards attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, and later studied film at the University of Southern California. During college, Edwards won roles in Heart Like a Wheel (1983) and Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982). Edwards soon amassed a list film credits including Revenge of the Nerds (1984), The Sure Thing (1985) and Gotcha! (1985), before landing the role of a lifetime as Doctor Mark Green on the tv drama "E.R." During his stint on "ER" Green won 2 Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a Golden Globe Award for his work on the series. Green has since gone back to the silver screen, recently appearing in Northfork (2003) and Thunderbirds in 2004.

Brian May (1947): Musician who is most famous for being the guitarist for the glam rock band "Queen." May began his musical career playing in a band called "Smile" in 1967. When the lead singer of the band left the group, Freddy Mercury stepped in as the energetic front man. The group changed their name to Queen, and in 1976, released the LP, "A Night at the Opera." That LP spawned the number 1 U.K. hit, "Bohemian Rhapsody," and people across the globe could not get enough of Queens unique sound. In 1979, Queen had their first U.S. number 1 single with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," and soared right back up to the top of the charts with "Another One Bites the Dust" in 1980. May enjoyed solo success in 1992, when his single, "Too Much Love Will Kill You," reached number 5 in the U.K.

George Dzundza (1945): Character actor who played Detective Sergeant Max Greevey on the first season of the critically acclaimed drama "Law and Order." Although he left the show before it reached the full scope of its prime time success, Dzundza has nothing less than an impressive list of screen roles to his credit. Dzundza has appeared in films including The Deer Hunter (1978), No Way Out (1987), The Butchers Wife (1991), Basic Instinct (1992), Crimson Tide (1995) and Instinct in 1999. He has also leant his voice to the animated series "Animaniacs," "Superman" and "Batman: Gotham Knights."

George McGovern (1922): Senator from South Dakota who was the Democratic Candidate for President of the United States in 1972. A dominant force on his High School debate team, McGovern knew early on that he was destined to be in politics. In 1943, McGovern was a B-24 pilot in the U.S. Army Air Force, and completed a graduate degree in History after flying his 35 missions. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1956, and appointed director of the Food for Peace Program by President Kennedy. McGovern won his Senate race when he ran in 1962, and was elected chairman of the Democratic reform commission in 1969. McGovern was reelected to the Senate in 1974 and held his seat through 1980.

FACT OF THE DAY
Today sees the anniversary of the Battle of Halidon Hill in 1333 when an army of 13,000 men under Sir Archibald Douglas met Edward Balliol's 10,000-strong army who were besieging Berwick on Tweed. English archers atop the hill easily dispatched 4,000 of Douglas's men, including Douglas himself and 500 nobles, who were bogged down in marshy ground at the foot of the hill.
