now with the chief justice gone, the bushwhacker gets to pick 2 justices.
thats scary. and who will become chief justice? souter? thomas? theres talk floating around already that o'connor will be asked to stay on a bit longer, and maybe even be chief justice for a time. now, the direction of the court has been to the far right. it needs to be shifted more toward the center. but its hard to shift after 19 years of moulding. we need at least one liberal on the court, two would be asking too much.
people are worried that the court will overturn roe v. wade. i dont think that will happen. when abortion was illegal, many women died at the hands of butchers. that practice was stopped when abortion became legal. even though i for one am against abortion, period, it does not make any sense to overturn roe v. wade.
i have not said much of anything on katrina. but i will say this: its a shame that it happened, and i feel bad for all those people that are suffering. and i really believe that if this happened in a city that the majority of the population was white, things would have gone a bit faster as far as rescue operations are concerned.

FACT OF THE DAY
Today is the anniversary of the birth of the poet Robert Fergusson in Edinburgh in 1750. Cited by Robert Burns as the poet who influenced him the most, Fergusson did not have a long or happy life. He died in 1774 in a mental asylum. I hope I dont croak in a mental asylum!
