HAPPY FUNDAY SUNDAY, one and all!!
dag nabbit gumby, it dont look good at all! heres how:

The unemployment rate for the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett area in December was 6.2 percent, up from 5.4 percent in November.

Compared with December 2007, the state had 54,600 fewer jobs last month, a 1.8 percent decline. Washington lost about 22,000 nonfarm jobs in December, seasonally adjusted.

The biggest drops were in manufacturing, which lost 3,500 jobs; professional and business services, down 7,900; administrative and support services, down 5,600; construction, down 4,200; and transportation, trade and utilities, down 3,300 jobs.

The state's chief economist predicted some sectors will continue to slide.

"We are not at the point where I see job losses bottoming out in either construction or manufacturing," Mary Ayala said in an interview Wednesday. But health services and education have remained more recession-resistant, she said.

Indeed, sectors with the most job growth in December included information, up 300 seasonally adjusted jobs; aerospace, up 400; and education and health services, up 300.

Ayala said many economists believe the recession could lift by year-end if stimulus packages from the state or federal governments get money to people by midyear.

"I think we're all on hold waiting for a fast stimulus program to get implemented," she said.

The U.S. recession, which just entered its second year, is already the longest in a quarter-century and is likely to stretch well into this year. The country is battling a housing collapse and a lockup in lending, making for the worst financial crisis since the 1930s.

The overall economy may get worse before it gets better because employers are cutting workers' hours and forcing some into part-time work. The average workweek in December fell to 33.3 hours, the lowest level on record dating to 1964 -- and a sign of more job reductions in the months ahead, economists said.

Kerry Kiley, a local manager for Melville, N.Y.-based Adecco Employment Services, said Washington has typically entered nationwide recessions late and exited them early.

"But this economy is much different," she said. "Losses are occurring in so many sectors, including retail in December, which almost never happens."

An estimated 251,728 people in Washington were unemployed and looking for work in December. The state has doubled staffing at its unemployment call centers to keep up with demand.

"Like every state in the country, the workload has strained our systems and we're working very hard to catch up," Lee said.

Washington's highest unemployment last month occurred in Cowlitz County, at 11.5 percent. The lowest rate statewide was San Juan County, at 5.7 percent.

Meanwhile, the sleeping and eating situation remains steady and good!

Last evening, the good cook at the mission cooked up the foodies, and it was a delight! this is the cook that KNOWS what he is doing!! we had chicken breast brushed in BBQ sauce WITH a hunk of BBQ beef AND baked beans and potato salad! i didnt even have room for the soup, cream of broccoli cause some nut job that was sitting across from me had an argument with his plate and got up and left and me and frank (who has the terminal colon cancer) scooped up his plate and divvied up the contents which were NOT TOUCHED! in addition, this morning, just a lil while ago, me and frank went to the catholic church up by the space needle near seattle center for a rousing plate of scrambled eggs, sausage and biscuits and gravy with coffee and juice and cereal! frank then proceeded to the bar, and i came down here to connections. i allow frank to hang out with me on occasion, even though he does drink the booze, but i feel bad for him, cause he is gonna croak soon, so i take him in small dosages, then when he runs off to the bar, we part company. he is afforded a lot of leeway at the mission cause he is dying, and i give him some leeway also, but just in small dosages like i say, cause frank is a chiseler, i'll buy him a cup of coffee, and occasionally give him a smoke, but thats IT! dont lend frank any money! theres a lot more to it than that, but basically thats the readers digest version of frank.
